Mlangali

Mlangali is a village of about 600 people 12 km from Iringa. The village was relying on contaminated water from surface sources and the Ruaha river. St Paul Partners drilled a deep well there in 2011 with about 1,000 liters/hour capacity. This project installed a solar powered pump that produces about 5,000 liters of clean water each day stored in a 10,000 liter sim tank. This amount of water does not meet the full needs of the village but provides clean safe water for drinking and cooking to supplement the other sources. Increased production would require 24 hour pumping, either with battery storage for the solar system or a generator. Mlangali will eventually be on the grid and the storage system would accommodate replacing the solar pump with a grid powered pump.
