Mtera Secondary School

Mtera Secondary School had a well drilled in 2007 but the water distribution system was in disrepair with storage cisterns that were unsanitary causing the well water to be contaminated. The school has about 300 students and is located near the Mtera reservoir in a dry area of Tanzania between Iringa and Dodoma. The SPP project installed two 10,000 liter sim tanks for storage, installed a new higher capacity pump, and replaced piping for the distribution system to several buildings on the campus.

Lowering the pump into the well, notice the Acacia trees.
Fish from the Mtera Reservoir are dried over a fire for preservation to be sold in Iringa.
